Your solidarity counts!
Since July of this year, refugees in Bavaria have been receiving their money on a payment card. However, this payment card is associated with massive restrictions on self-determination. For example, people can only withdraw €50 in cash per month, cannot make bank transfers or online purchases and can no longer shop in many places in their area.
What helps is practical solidarity! People with a payment card buy shopping vouchers –from Aldi, DM, Edeka, Lidl, REWE or tegut – and exchange them for cash from people who use the vouchers for their private purchases. The idea is not new and has been implemented in cities such as Nuremberg, Regensburg and Munich very successfully.
How can I get involved?
- Find out below when and where the next card swap meetings are taking place. Do not forget to bring cash to the specified dates. When you hand in your cash, you can indicate which shopping vouchers you would prefer to receive.
- After you have handed in €50 (or more) in cash, you will receive one or more shopping vouchers worth the amount paid a week later.
- Talk to your friends and social circle and invite everyone to the card swap events! Come back so that the events can take place regularly and do your part against the discriminatory payment card.
